Interested in knowing what people prefer to do with rim size when doubling on Flugel.
For example when looking at the Yamaha Bobby Shew Rims the Shew Jazz is a similar size to a 14B ID but the Shew Flugel has a smaller ID rim. (the same ID as the Shew Lead) Obviously Bobby prefers to double on a smaller rim. However, I have heard many say, stick to the exact same rim and others say the deeper the cup, the smaller the rim.
What works for you? Why? _________________ Mr Inbetween |

I use totally different size and even makes. It helps me to remember to play them differently. I play the mouthpiece that gives me the best sound on each instrument. _________________ "Nearly as good as I need to be. Not nearly as good as I want to be".

I prefer the exact same rim. I use Curry mouthpieces, so that’s easy. _________________ The name I go by in the real world is Joe Lewis |

Second this. As long as it feels comfortable and you like the sound. |

Never mattered to me. Usually used same rim shape and rim diameter but a little deeper for Flugelhorn. _________________ "If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn." Bird

If you're doubling and only have a few beats to change horns, the exact same rim is helpful. I also play Currys. |

Not a professional, just amateur playing occassionally in church services. Never need to switch horns rapidly during a song, but once in a while play trumpet for one tune and them fluegel for another.
Fluegel - Flip Oakes Wild Thing gold plated - FO WT 3 mpc. Have only tried a few different mpcs on fluegel and keep coming back to the FO WT 3 mpc. It just works and the intonation is wonderful.
Trumpet - mainly Schilke B6b, sometimes Flip Oakes Wild Thing. Most of the time use Yamaha GP 14B4, but have been testing out a James New mpc recently trying to downsize a bit. _________________ Larry Woods
