besson flugelhorn ,no serial number, made in france, surprised to find my standard taper shank mouthpiece fit perfectly, does anybody know why?

I cannot answer your question.

HOWEVER ... I believe you should be more curious/concerned regarding your horn NOT HAVING A SERIAL NUMBER.

I have encountered this phenomena before, but not on a F. Besson (Paris); of which I have about a dozen.
In each case, I have a strong suspicion the horn was/is a prototype.
