I would be very interested if this discussion would continue since I have a burbank trumpet that has Fullerton stamped on the bell and a star . I also have a Chicago 1000 and a Benge 3x LA . Does the Chicago and Burbank mandrell still exist and which mandrell was used for the " modern " Burbank trumpet ?

The Burbank line of trumpets was started when Zig's factory was still in Fullerton. All that continued when he made the move to Anaheim.
B.A.C. Music in Kansas City is who bought all of the stuff from Kanstul. I would contact them about any questions you have involving what you might need. However - my understanding is that Burbank Trumpets are no longer being built, and plans for continuing their manufacture are not looking good.

We all had high hopes that BAC, having bought the tooling and acquired the "Benge" name from Conn-Selmer (which Zig had been trying to get for years), would continue the Benge tradition (including Michael Thomas' "Burbank" line). After all, they have the mandrels, the documentation, and (supposedly) the expertise to do so. But so far, nothing is forthcoming from them. Maybe it's symbolic that the "Benge" page on their website features three deceased technicians. |
