I very much like the Bach 1x rim and would like to have one made with a c cup.
Would it be best to just buy a 1x and a 1 1/2 C and have them threaded or would it be better to have one made up?
In either case, what maker would you recommend to do one or the other?
I read in an old thread that John Mohan had a whole set of underparts made for 1x rims but he didn’t say where he had it done.
If anybody could recommend a maker in Europe, that would be even better.
Thanks for your suggestions and experiences. |

Hey there,
Curry sells a bunch of prefabricated designs. The 1X rim is also known as the 1H rim, and he makes them as a 1HC, 1HB, 1HBC, etc. That rim shape is very, very common in the trumpet world. You can also get something very similar from Parke (650 rim), Laskey, Hammond, and others. _________________ Andrew Harms, DMA

I love Parke... if you like the 1X rim then either the Orchestral Rim in 660 or 655 size is probably what you want.
If you want a true 1X rim matched to a C cup, you can't go wrong with Frost Custom Brass. He does fantastic work! _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------------

The suggestions above are all good choices. You might also consider James New. He’s got the 1X and all the related C cups digitized. Putting them together in a one piece or top is in his wheelhouse.
You can also check out Vennture. They’ve got digital scans of the parts you’re looking to combine. They may be able to send you a 3-d printed version to test before committing to making it in brass.
Lots of high quality options out there. |

+1
Jim New is excellent. He's an expert with years of experience creating digitized scans and combining them to produce custom mouthpieces with CNC technology. Both his prices and turnaround times are very reasonable. _________________ "He that plays the King shall be welcome . . . " (Hamlet Act II, Scene 2, Line 1416)
