It doesn't matter, as long as you clearly feel the subdivision. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

I dont know if anybody experiences this, but when I play the 6 notes, 2nds and Harmonics, my sound is I would call horrible..Crackly,airy..nothing I would like to use on a gig I would be paid for..However, after the rest period and during my regular practice,Im quite happy with the sound..No idea why the difference happens, but it happens just like that every day...Oh and when playing 2nds, it starts to sound like a squeek(almost like a falsetto),but I can control it, at usually between F above the staff to sometimes double C. I know Carmine said something about where theres smoke theres fire, but nothing seems to change from what I have described.I have been doing the exercises for about 6 months..I guess ill keep smoking till the fire starts?
I am noticing my "Non Caruso" playing range is improving, and quite happy with the full clear sound I get after the Caruso practice period..Confusing! |

Just do it. Do not evaluate how you think the calisthenics are working or how they sound. What your body learns transfers to your non-CC playing indirectly and you should see and expect progress in that context. It sounds to me like all is working as it should. _________________ Bach trumpet artist-clinician

Thanks..Just do it it is!
Would like to add that a long time ago
(40 years ago) I did an experiment and
practiced only Caruso for about 2 weeks.
6 notes, 2nds,Harmonics; Rest an hour,do them
again, probably 4 or 5 times a day(I was on vacation)..After a few
weeks of this I started adding etudes and man
my chops felt great;I could play comfortably and
controlled up to double A`s and B`s,which was
something I could never do before!
..However when I went to play
shows, I had to have my tuning slide out over 2 1/2 inches
to be in tune with the orchestra, which was scary..So I stopped all
the Caruso exercises and my pitch went back to normal.
However the comfortable Doubles disappeared too.
So now so many years later, Im practicing the exercises as prescribed
and my pitch is fine, and my mindset is, as you say..Just do it!
Much appreciated! |
