Studied through high school and college under George Jensen, trumpet professor, jazz, and concert band director, Loyola University, New Orleans. George graduated Julliard and was a student of Vacciano, who was a student of Schlossberg.
Jensen was a Benge dealer in the 60's. Ben Smalley, Jay Cherentz, and I would perform side by side tests of the trumpets as they arrived. I was commissioned at graduation and after officer basic; sent straight to Vietnam deployed with the 101st Airborne Division. Now, I am a disabled Veteran starting to play again. I haven't played since 1970.
My original horn was an old Reynolds before buying the French made Henri Selmer large bore professional horn. These were copies of the french besson but it has a .470 bore with a 4-7/8" bell. I would love to find a used horn with the easy blowing, big sound of the Burbank benges. |
