I heard his myspace page, intrigued by the claims of "higher" and "louder".

http://www.myspace.com/thetrumpetofthelord

Then I read this:

http://www.geocities.com/all_about_schmidt/

What is the deal? Does he play fast too?

As far as I know, he's some religious player claiming to have supernatural trumpet abilites. I've never heard the guy play but I'll check out the site. It will be nice to see if he can do all he claims.

I think he posts here from time to time. In my opinion he's not the best player on the planet, but not the worst. From what I remember he plays mainly in chruches...

I was about to cut this guy some slack until I read through that second (Geocities) site. I'm not one to talk negatively about another player but the things brought up on that site are weird. A real turn-off for me. I don't usually have much interest in these types of players (Driscoll, etc.) but man, that site is pretty out.

The "songs" on his myspace seem to indicate that he can play loud. His trumpet seems to overload the recording microphone, although that could be the recording engineer's fault. A compressor could have helped, and no decent engineer would ever have allowed that kind of distortion/clipping. But what's up with the tone sounding all boxy? Or is that what happens when one plays that loud?

Higher and louder and faster is even better. Speed is good, right?

He's a guy that has been around for quite a while. He used to be a regular on the trumpet forum on UseNet (rec.music.makers.trumpet), until he became so obnoxious that practically everyone there killfiled him. He might still be there, but I never have to see his messages any more. His 'schtick' is playing loud, playing high, playing with no subtlety, and promoting himself.

He is more controlled in his appearances here.

I have run across this guy a few times but have never heard him play. It's easy to say you are the best flugel player ,but sooner or later you will have to prove it.
