Another alternative to the Monette or Jet-Tone is the Groovin'High Mouthpiece by Dan McMillion. You can find info on Dan's mouthpiece through the GR Technologies Website. http://www.grmouthpieces.com.
This mouthpiece is not for me as the alpha angle is too high for my set-up, but Dan can sure make it smoke! I understand that this is a version of an old piece MF played in the 50's, reverse engineered by GR.

Yeah, I personally find the Jet tone MF mouthpiece to be almost unusable. What were they thinking????

I play the Jettone T2c and T1c. Just wondering how the MF Jettone is compared to theses shallow leadmpcs.

HORRIBLE, it is so hard to play on cause u have to have a constant stream of air right throught the center of the mpc. Once u can figure out how to use the mouthpiece it can scream

I played a Studio model C years ago and it ripped! Made the mistake of loaning it out and never got it back. Wish they still made this one.

I got about two minutes with one of these. felt like I could really rip with it, however, I think I'd have been absolutely tired after a short period of time.

I've used the jet-tone MF mouthpiece since early highschool. I now am just getting back into playing after 10 years of non-playing (only recently played the odd church or school gig).

Why did I pick the MF? I think first because the minimal edge on it's v shapped rim/cup felt great (no cutting into my lip as I use too much pressure ..yah I know). Secondly because it naturally buzzes at a higher resister and I wanted to play lead. Thirdly because Maynard was my high school hero. Forthly because I traded a bach 7C for it from a guy who couldn't play the MF.

In high school I played concert and stage bands as well as jazz combos. I was able to get a fat clean sound out this mouthpiece and my bach strad model 37. The sound I have is clean and bright..and loud. I'm not sure if it's from playing lead all these years but I definetely can overpower most other's ; especially in the high register. I can hoevere play soft melodic passages as well, it just doesn't sound as mellow as some other players. I originally got it to help high range but developed a style that let me play full sounding solos as well. It's punchy and brassy. It does take blowing power and practice to get a fullclean style but it can be done. Everyone who I let try it has trouble fitting into the small V shapped cup and pushing agaisnt the resistance but they usually comment on easier high range. On the negative side , I do seem to loose my lip quickly but that may be due to my overpowering, high sound and lack of disciplined practice.

After all these years, I'm actually looking to order another one as my old one has a slight imperfection on the inner cup.

Although I haven't experimented with others, the MF is the only piece I wil play. It got me through high school stage bands and even helped me win lead trumpet in the allstar band in a cross canada stage band festival way back in 1982.

In the end, once you master it, you'll love it.

Good Luck,
Randy
