Ive been told and from what ive been able to see the Yamaha 6310Z is more or less a copy of the Couesnon Flugelhorn

I was just wondering how similar are they really? What are the differences? Is the Couesnon replaceable with the Yamaha?

The biggest difference is that the Yamaha plays in tune .

My experience is that the Cuesnon is far superior (at least according to my own sensibilities) in sound/tone quality. I have played the Yamaha 731 in performances but I prefer my Cuesnon by far. As far as intonation is concerned, I had a 1st and 3rd trigger arrangement added and I have no problems playing in tune (other than my own limitations as a player).

At one time, Bobby Shew made a statement that if one comes across a good Cuesnon Flugel that one should snap it up and never let it go.

I've been playing on the "Bobby Shew" model Flugel YFH-6310Z ? (model #) for two years now and I love it. There are those who say they hate the valves, but as long as you "maintain them" by basically oiling them once in a while you're golden. I use Hetman, Blue Juice, and 5 Star Oil.

I've played on the YTF-731 and more recently the Olds Rose Brass model (which has a major intonation problem on first space F) I called the company and they would not admit to this major intonation Flaw. Unfortunately the Olds of today is NOT the Olds of yesteryear. . .

Anyway, The Yamaha gets my vote. I did play on a Cuesnon in High School, my Band Director owned one, and it was a nice horn, but I still think the Shew model has all the intonation kinks worked out AND it comes with a trigger to boot. Just my humble opinion. Good Luck!

I prefer the Queenie over the Yammie. The Couesnon just had a flugel tone that the Yamaha 6310Z didn't come close to in substance. The Couesnon sound was so seductive I forgave it for its mediocre valves. I always used a flugel mouthpiece with the proper French taper, and my Queenie did not have intonation problems. My Kanstul French Besson Brevete is basically the Couesnon with better valves.
