I've gotten to the point where I can classify Reinhardt's embouchure types when I see an accomplished brass musician playing when his or her embouchure is working well. However, I often work with students who are having embouchure difficulties and want to help them play with the proper type for their physical set-up.

How did Reinhardt work out which embouchure type a musician *should* be playing with? What do you use as a guide? How do you help the student in question find the "sweet spot" on the lips where the embouchure will work more efficiently?

Dave
