I noticed that lead trumpet mouthpieces had been talked frequently. Are there lead cornet mouthpiece?

I guess nobody use a cornet as a lead horn. I am curious to know about what kind of cornet mouthpiece was used by a lead cornet player when cornets dominated the band.

Thanks.

checkout Mark Curry's line of 'deep cornet' mouthpieces. He's a great guy to talk to; very knowlegeable and friendly.

I use a deep cornet mouthpiece for all my trumpet playing (i.e. he makes the mouthpieces for trpt as well as cornet). It has great range/projection as well as endurance. Of course, I would never recommend it as a 'lead' piece in terms of screaching in the altissimo range or peeling paint in a bigband.

Good luck!

Go to grmouthpieces.com/cornet.html
GR has a wide variety of cornet mouthpiece configurations available. Perhaps look at the descriptions and see what you may like. The #1 cup may be what you want. I know that GR is also able to give you a custom configuration that will burn if that's what you want for your cornet.

I do have a "lead" mp for cornet (although I consider it high register vs lead, as trumpet has the "sizzle" while cornet can play up there and not sizzle) It's a Bach 1.5 bored out to a #25 drill. This is for a med. bore cornet. I use it for dixiland style, or for parts that function like a piccolo trumpet: high and precise. For a mellow sound, I use a Wick 2B, and it's quickly becoming my favorite jazz voice. But after 5 hours, I'm pretty tired, not able to play above hi c. I called Tim Curry and he called the Wick "a flugelhorn mp", and tomorrow I am trying his 1.25 deep and vintage cornet mps to see if there is something I can be mellow on, but not work so hard.

I've ot an old NY Bach 7 that was made into a custom high note piece the cup is so shallow it only holds 1/8 a teaspoon of liquid.
