Not gonna offer any advice since others here are far more qualified. Just some empathy. I went through the same thing in high school. Blowing my face off in marching band, losing range and endurance, but with no time to rest and reset due to constant rehearsal requirements. It's a vicious cycle, having to force out notes just to get the notes, but in doing so reinforcing the incorrect approach that caused the problem in the first place. I hope you find a teacher who can help you.

I never did music in school, but this looks like torture to me for this kid, bordering on malpractice. Or not?

Torture for the kid or the judge? Lol

Obviously this side thread has nothing to do with the OPs question but if you were serious about this comment: that is how some students play and the band director should not have sent them to S&E.

As a further follow-up, I bounced the topic of lessons off my cousin the H.S. orchestra director to see what they thought about some of what's been discussed here. They have private instructors set up through the school program, my cousin interviews them - while they don't micromanage the lessons they're definitely involved with the private study process.

You chose that as your first post?

He's older now and plays much better in some of his other videos.

I'm glad they figured it out, solid progress over the past two years, so happy!
