I have recently acquired some old LPs, one of which being Karl Münchinger’s 1967 Bach Christmas Oratorio. The trumpets are not credited, but when listening to it I thought it sounded a lot like Maurice Andre. I compared it to the 1965 Karl Richter recording, which does credit Andre as soloist— the phrasing and sound is very similar. Can anyone confirm that it is him on this record? And for that matter, is he also on the 1971 Münchinger B Minor Mass?

Without even listening to the Richter recording for comparison, you can tell straight away from Grosse Herr that it's unmistakably Maurice Andre on the Stuttgart recording.
Nobody else sounded like that in 1967 (or since, for that matter). Marvellous! |
