Just came from The Brass Bow, which has a rare Benge pocket trumpet for sale for $850. It's the first pocket horn I've played that really sounds like a trumpet, possibly because it has a 4 1/2-inch bell, about an inch bigger than the bells on Jupiters, etc.

Not sure of the vintage, but the horn is in great shape: lacquered yellow brass, no dings, good valves, compression, etc.

At one time I believe Benge pockets were going for around $2,000.

I pass this along hoping somone will buy it before I'm overcome by temptation and go racing back there.

For more on the horn, contact Ken Allen at The Brass Bow:

That's just what I've been thinking, and that's the problem. Seriously, that Benge pocket is going to make someone very happy. It's on consignment, I don't know who from. But they sure took good care of it.
