hi people
I come from Belgium (sorry my bad English) and play am 1 years trumpet. I have to buy
now before me a trumpet and in my music store give it a Conn V1 B-SP.
This trumpet pleased me excellently.
Now my question. Which is with many other possible finish.
for example:
B-SP = Yellow Brass Silver plated finish
BS = Sterling Silver CLEAR lacquer finish
BS-SP = Sterling Silver Silver plated finish
BR-SPG
and so on.
Does someone know somewhat about those differently finish regarding
sound, durability, quality?
Thanks

I think that yellow brass with the #34 leadpipe is the way to go. You asked about finishes, but I think bell material and leadpipes are more important.
I'd personally pick the gold-plate, but that's purely a personal preference. Silver-plate would be my second choice. I think the rose-brass and sterling bells are too dark for my tastes, but others actually prefer them.

check the specs at http://www.unitedmusical.com/
For me, I love the look of a laquered horn but you really have to take care of them and it does change the sound (sometimes for the better?)
Silver Plate is certainly more durable and for many, better looking.
My favorite is Gold Plate - not just because it looks wonderful but it requires so little care.
And the satin gold does not show any finger prints either!
Some of the options for the Vintage 1 include the rose brass or the solid sterling silver bell. You would want to play these horns first as they will have a different sound and response from the regular yellow brass bell. I've never played a V1 but I've played other horns with sterling and rose brass bells and they both have good qualities. Try them out if you get a chance.
Good Luck |

The only 2 Vintage horns that I have "handled" that were in Laq. finish...were in all honesty, LEFT A LOT TO BE DESIRED. For a wonderful playing and looking instrument, in truth, left me disapointed.
Nick Dyson and I first noticed the laq. clear coat was not only thin...but missing, on portions of the 1st and 3 tuning slides.
However, I have been assured by my friends at Kennelly Keys, after they notified the mfg. that poor quality spray coat problem....has been solved? Humm? I wonder.
Besides just being purty'....a gold finish is far and away more user friendly than both silver plate and clear coat expoxy laq. finishes.
Some folks (like this BBD) can have a toxic reactions to both silver plate or laq. and when the laq. coat, rubs through, then the problem begins to surface....
even more folks have an allergy in handling "raw brass" but a little "Hobby spray clear coat- over the rub throughs....will do just fine in reducing the extra risk.
I have said it a million times....and one more!!!
Until a person becomes "over-exposed" to metal poisoning....99.99.9 percent of folks, just ignor the risk!!!
I CAN ASSURE YOU...EXPOSING YOURSELF to raw brass and other metals..can sooner or later be dramatic enough to change your mind set on that FOREVER!!!
Just the smell of raw brass...actually makes me sicko', almost instantly.
Not to alarm anyone....washing your hands after handling ANY RAW BRASS OR METALS....IS ALWAYS A VERY GOOD IDEA.

Ha!
Just like telling the group of smokers gathered around the front of the building this morning.... TO GIVE UP KILLING THEMSELVES, TO STOP SMOKING?
ADDICTIONS COME IN MANY FORMS, HUH?
Hi, My name is Don Shultz...I AM A GEEK TRUMPET ADDICT!
Suggesting that I switch to some other kind of instrument...Guess we know the answer to that huh?
Like empteeein' a SPITVALVE into the wind or telling me to give up my Rainer Light draft...or my trumpet playing. A word of caution is still the bottom line:
