A copper bell fluegelhorn. I played a Kanstul Signature once and the sound was like "butta".

Dream well.

I'd like to try a Kanstul Coliseum COL3. And then any trumpet shaped like a saxaphone, just for fun. I already have one made by Leinbacher, I know that Keilwerth made one for awhile, and DEG made one too. There is also a model that looks to have almost flugelhorn-like bell size that I haven't been able to discover who the manufacturer is....jbqd

An Eclipse large yellow in silver, and a custom screamer by eclipse. I told Leigh to make me something with a med classic bell, and make it cool. I basically turned him loose to do what he wanted, and I'm anxious to see what he came up with....I'll post pics on the site when I get it.

Is the Large Yellow the same horn as the Large Red but with different brass? What does Eclipse do to a custom made trumpet in order to achieve maximum high range capabilities? Since it seems you will now have 3 Eclipses after this order is complete, can you discuss what specific uses you envision for all three horns?

It's nice to know that Uncle Sam is paying you guys enough to afford $9,000 worth of horns. By the time you make 4 star general maybe you could buy out Eclipse?

Hi valvepimp. Yes, the large yellow Eclipse is the same trumpet with the same shaped bell as the large red Eclipse but made with yellow brass instead of red brass.
In fact all the instruments in the Eclipse range (with the exeption of the Equinox) are identical apart from the various bells. There are three bell shapes/sizes: medium, large and classic: and these can be made in yellow brass, red brass, heavy yellow brass or heavy red brass (the regular bells are 0.5mm and the heavy bells are 0.7mm).
As to Gary's custom trumpet I am afraid that the details of this are 'top secret' at the moment. In any case if you had heard him play you would be wondering what on earth it is that HE does to achieve maximum high range capabilities!!!
As to my next trumpet, it will without doubt be a medium heavy red Eclipse. The first one of these off the production line has just been sold today to a hot young jazz player from Canada (now residing in London) Jay Phelps - remember that name folks! It is an almost indescribably amazing horn, but I'll try. It has all the stunning blowing, slotting and intonation properties of all the Eclipse trumpets, including my own medium yellow in scratch gold plate - largely due to Eclipses revolutionary design inovations and build quality. But the sound!! It is dense, compact, complex, rich, dark, glowing, intense, velvety, brilliant, pure, complete, golden, chocolate, grainy, warm, projecting, intimate, majestic, personal, expressive, earthy, angelic, simply awesome..... I could go on but hopefully you get the point.
John Barclay said, after playing just three notes on it ,"it's got everything" and I agree. Jay Phelps is a very lucky man.
Noel.

Thank you Noel, for that very detailed and informative explanation. You now have my permission to call me valveponce if you so desire.

Seriously, that Eclipse must be some horn to make you want to retire your vintage Olds Super and Burbank Benge, which I read in another posting of yours.

I see a number of Schilke P5-4 piccolos listed here, what type of music is a piccolo best suited for? Does jazz music at times use a piccolo?

hehehe
Well, yes. Three Eclipses. The primary axe will be the large red scratch gold. The screamer will be a standard eclipse screamer, the custom part will be purely cosmetic. This horn will be used for stage band. The large yellow will be for marching shows, and anything that requires a middle of the road sound with a huge volume of sound, but not as warm as the lg red. (The army is good at coming up with such gigs)
I know 3 horns seems a bit much, but it's my dollar and I'll spend it as I wish, so to speak. As lonley angel can verify, one tends to feel like a kid in a candy store when you go to the eclipse shop, not knowing wich horn is the best, realizing that you would be thrilled to own any one of them. I settled on 3, couldn't settle on one. Had to have them. How often does one find the best 3 horns he has ever played in the same room??
