Title says it all. The cornets go for considerably less bread. Are they equal to a comparable trumpet?

There's an awesome post where guys showed pics of their matched pairs of favorite trumpet & cornet. Ambassador to Recording, Connquest to Connstellation, 37 to Zeno to 400 and beyond.

From that thread you may connect with someone who knows their Committees.

I have several / many of both.

The Cornets ARE equal to the Trumpets in almost every respect.

One MUST intelligently select mouthpieces that bring out the real "Cornet-iness", though. Not often the case. Trumpet-players generally do not have the proper attitude / 'mind-set', when approaching a Cornet.

Their loss ... our (the Cornet-players) gain.

Buy one. You'll be pleased.

You don't even have to necessarily go for the Committee cornet either.
There are a number of other options available to the player in the Martin family.
Don't buy one though - go for two just to be sure the first one is not a dud
