Good Afternoon Folks.
It's been a month since Jeff kicked me up the xxxxside and got me starting the RI exercises.
Progress not outstanding but having success.
RI1 no problems.
RI2 can only really drop down one note (can climb up though without squeezing). When I go down further lips come apart and note becomes ragged. This will correct itself shortly I'm sure.
Now the real story. Whilst trying out my '10min RI practice' (see Herb's post) my lips felt comfortable (now I have a full sound on G3).
I thought can I roll in further and climb. So up I went to C3. Then tried again but now playing a scale still rolling in not squeezing. Up I went and eventually stopped at F3. Wow!
Shame I missed out on G4 though
Back to serious practice.
The signposts are now appearing at regular intevals.
My true range (my definition) is still D2 from RO embouchure (have reached G3 cleanly).
Soon RI s will help with that too.
Just hope I don't tripped over the white beard before it happens.

I totally disagree with the above statement because of the following:

What do you want, the Moon?

Good Morning Valerie.
It certainly was a surprise. I played the scale because I wasn't sure what notes I was playing.
I play the RIs last thing at night usually and quietly (the neighbours).
Yesterday they were out and I change the order of my BE routine.
The F3 was sitting down as well
The real progress, I think, is the new feel I have on the low F#.
This will take a week or so to settle in. This low experimentation since adding to Herb's post seemed to have firmed up the embouchure for the RIs (unexpected). I don't mean tight but a compact sort of feel.

This is so interesting. From time to time, I hear horn players recommending to each other to work on low notes as well as other things to improve their upper register. Only BE incorporates ALL the effective elements into a one comprehensive package that's so simple kids can master it. wow.
If you haven't done so lately, take a really close look at the kids on the cover of the book. Notice how relaxed their faces are. They are totally in control without even knowing it!

Good Morning Valerie.
The attention I was giving the low F# can be better described than I on page 61 pt 3 (The BE book). Also, page 63 instruction 5 ~ I feel I can do more here.
The lower lip curling outwards and sealing the lips firmly (not tight) I've also been trying on and off with RI practice. Now I've re-read this section I'll concentrate on this lower lip seal thing on RI tonight.
This is what I meant by RO having a LC sort of feel.
Although I'm not ready for RO4 yet I've been doing this very softly and quietly (since Oct 11th) and I can hear the airy sounds of G3. So I can't be that far off getting this exercise to work.
The photographs on the cover. I cannot get the correct look. They have more hair and smoother skin than I. Must try harder
Read your blog again.

Mmmmm... I know what you mean. I've been asked by several horn players to share a picture of my embouchure in the various BE positions. I'm hesitant for two reasons: (1) For one thing, I don't want people to get too hung up over trying to look like someone else when they play and (2) I don't want anyone to see a close up of the prune face I make when I do BE. "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity."
The pretty kids' faces will just have to suffice!

Good Evening Valerie.
What's a Frippery? Sensible answers please!
How many students do you have? What is the age range of them?
Are all of them Horn players?
