On E-Bay,there is a E-bay seller offering a new old stock, OLDS 7A and Reynolds 6A Cornet M.P.'s for sale. One listed in the Olds Cornet mouthpiece Section and one offered in the Reynolds Cornet mouthpiece section. I contacted the seller, about these. He said they have the larger shanks than the later Bach shank mouthpieces. I believe the Auctions are for two more days. Some recently have been looking for these type Cornet mouthpieces. Check them out, check with the Seller to be sure. Hope these are what some of you fellows are looking for. Good Luck.

I wondered how his Reynolds and Olds mouthpieces could look identical, as though made by the same company.

CMI bought Olds and Reynolds in 1964.
The Reynolds and Olds production were in the same plants 1971-1979.
That the eBay Reynolds and Olds mouthpieces look like they were made by the same company indicates that they were probably made after 1964, probably after 1971.
But Olds stopped making the large-shank cornets in 1956.
So why would the company make large-shank mouthpieces one or two decades after the large-shank cornets were discontinued?

I have asked the seller to measure the length of the 2 mouthpieces so that we can know if they are 1960's-1970's flugel mouthpieces rather than large-shank cornet mouthpieces.

Ditto Cornetamateur,my exact thoughts. I did some more research,on the Olds site,on the later pics in the 70's. The Cornet m.p.'s in the Cornets ,had the same outer looks as these E-Bay seller's pieces.
More Bach looking. If the shanks are to large to fit a modern Cornet, reciever. They are probably Flugelhorn mouthpieces. Some much older info. from Contempora Corner, on this site sent to me. Showed a 7A for Trumpet and a 5A for Cornet. A 6A was listed for a Frenchhorn. Having a modern Bach look, both made in same plant in 70's. Like, you I think they are Flugelhorn m.p.'s. This E-Bay seller claims to have Music Tech. training etc.,but is slow on finding out the correct info. Probably does not want to change the format, due to e-Bay additional charges. Tis Bliss to be Ignorant, when Folly to be Wise. HaHa There may be one good piece of thought though. The shank tapers may still be a better taper,or same taper on the older 50's Olds Cornet M.P.'s. Since some Cornet Olds L.A. players are using Bach Flugelhorn M.P.'s,to get by. These may fit better, and may be the same taper as the older L.A. Cornet m.p.'s I did contact the E-Bay Seller, let him know He may be selling Flugelhorn m.p's for Cornet M.P.'s. For $12.99 plus shipping, both pieces may be a good buy,if just to resell to Olds and Reynolds Flugelhorn players.

Olds Central says that flugel mouthpieces from Yamaha and from Bach can be used on pre-1956 large-shank Olds cornets with limited success,
so common sense says that an Olds or Reynolds flugel mouthpiece might work even better on those pre-1956 large-shank Olds cornets.

No guarantee on how well they would work, but worth a try if the eBay mouthpieces sell cheap enough.
