Back to the woodshed for me...
At the moment, she's my favorite trumpet player/musical inspiration,
with performances like that as the reason _________________ Bb: Courtois 305 "Elite"

I like the look on her face at 3:25. It's pretty much an "I've just completely rocked this entire solo, and now I'm about to play this one last phrase and you all are going to clap for me because I'm awesome" look. _________________ Kevin

Kevin, she just looked like she was really into playing this piece from the get-go, and even after finishing a phrase, she even did a little self-talk almost like an NBA or pro tennis player would do after hitting a basket or winner. And, yes, towards the end, that smile that she flashed seemed to communicate an "I nailed this piece and I'm having an absolute blast all the while!" look. Oh, what a feeling, eh? _________________ 1964 Conn Connstellation 38B

sadly i found the trombone entry to be more moving than the entire rest of ali's playing throughout both pieces. but i am not here to badmouth her. i am just fascinated as to why i find her playing so immeasurably dull!
sorry chaps, ignore me and keep enjoying, she is a talent alright. maybe one day i'll 'get it'..or 'get over it', whichever.

That is the best final movement of the Hummel I've ever heard. It was so sparkling and crisp, not to mention musical. Bravo Alison!
I agree. Her articulation is so beautiful and as you say, "crisp." I also really appreciated her dynamics throughout this performance. Very expressive; she makes her trumpet "sing," IMVHO. I'm no classical trumpet/music expert, but I know when music and a performer move me. _________________ 1964 Conn Connstellation 38B

I would have gone with the Tiger Woods fist pump, but it's a matter of personal style.
I kinda have to agree with Dershem about the "extra" stuff. I'm not used to seeing players dance and applaud their way through classical performances. Of course, this is just my opinion and as unimportant as it might be, I bet there are others who didn't really get all of that. I thought her playing was good, though. _________________ "Trumpets Alone"

Thanks very much for posting these videos. She is great. I have all of her cd's and listen to them regularly. Her playing has positively influenced mine. _________________ Bach Strad 37, B&S Challenger I Trumpets

Great playing!
Regarding the "extra stuff," I can't really find fault aside from personal tastes... String players and pianists have long histories of emoting while they play, and I think it can be a great tool to engage the audience. Allison is certainly having a fun time! The camera work was a little busy for me, though.
no doubt her playing is good, but has anyone thought to ask the question: "Is she really just a chupacabra in a human suit?" _________________ -GET OVER HERE!

I had the opportunity to see Ms. Balsom in concert earlier this year in a small setting with just a Cello, Violin and Piano playing with her. She performed for nearly two hours. I can tell you that the last note was as clear and crisp as the first note.
She is a remarkable player and one of the few who has taken the music world by storm. I would see her again in a NY second if she comes anywhere near Michigan again. I would love to see her with the DSO. _________________ Playing again after 33 years,

The emoting doesn't bother me at all. Average Joe mentioned that lots of others dance - you even saw it in the video. Alison's playing is inspiring to a lot of folks. Remember, music is art, and done properly, connects at a deep level with the soul. If that makes you dance a bit, then that's what its all about.

i had forgotten about this thread, and when I saw the name i thought that Allison balsom raped and murdered a little girl in 1990. I mean, there's no proof she didn't right? _________________ -GET OVER HERE!
