I recently tried all of the Artist models extensively. Hopefully I can give you an idea:
I'm not sure EXACTLY what the differences are. I know the Vizzutti has brass valve guides, which is somehow different than the New York. Also, there is a difference in the stop nut on the third valve slide... I believe the one on the Vizzutti is somehow bigger or heavier. Lastly, cosmetically, the Vizzutti has gray mother of pearl finger buttons. The Vizzutti is also not technically an artist model; the bell is stamped "Custom" and seems to retail at a lower price ($3395 as opposed to $3926 at ProWinds). However, it seems to have all of the features, including the tapered wall thickness in the bell and flat bead rim, which I think are two of the defining features of the Yamaha Artist line. On the timeline, the Vizzutti is a newer design, seemingly based on the New York but with some slight modifications.
Playing wise, they are a little bit different. I found the Vizzutti more responsive and the sound a little bit livelier to play. In front, I believe they sound extremely similar-- basically no difference. They are both great, but for the discount and ease of play, I recommend the Vizzutti. It seems to be a New York but with some functional working modifications.
They are both fantastic. I play an 8335G and really like it, but both of those horns were simply better, more refined instruments. The best things about them are the resonant broad sound and even timbre/intonation. If you like the denseness of the Bach but want the evenness, for that kind of money, I also recommend looking into the Shires trumpets (especially the B59A).

There are a few subtle differences between the VS and the NY.
I've played on a VS with both brass stems and aluminum...and, there is a huge difference in both feel and sound.
The VS kinda fills the void between the 9335NY and the 9335CHS. It also shares some of the Chicagos braces. I prefer the VS to both of the other artist models. The Chicago can be very stiff and restrictive. And, I never cared for the NY.
Yes..the stamp on the bell of the Vizzutti is different from the other artist models. But, the Vizzutti is also an artist model. Just don't know if it's going to be around forever......might be a limited edition model. Don't know for sure. You can read about it on the Yamaha website. |

Just to add a couple of things....
The 9335CHS is made to feel more like a C trumpet.
The 9335NY is made to feel more Bb "bach" like
The 9335VS feels more Bb-like compared to the Chicago. But, it definitely slots similarly to the 9335CHS. And, the high range is a bit more open..which is similar to the 9335NY. |
