I'd love to try an Asymmetric Lead piece.

I have a Yamaha Bobby Shew Lead, a Shew Jazz, a Jet-tone Al Hirt, and various Bach mouthpieces.

Hi Randy

Just a small word of warning. I tried a 3CW once, thinking that it was just a 3C with a wider rim. I personally think that Kanstul have scanned an atypical one on their mouthpiece comparator, as the cup of the 3CW I tried was not deeper than a 3C. However, even so, the 3CW did not play at all like a 3C, and I couldn't get on with it at all, finding articulations and clean attacks difficult. I am not sure whether the alpha angle is different to the 3C, or whether a wider version of the 3C rim did not work for me (I had no problems with the 7DW).

Anyhow, your mileage may vary, and the 3CW may suit you.

Just thought I would share this.

Take Care

Lou

Hi Lou...I got the Bach 3CW today and played it a bit....first impressions are it bears little resemblance to the 3C I have....In fact it felt absolutely huge...good thing I have big feet or I might have fallen into the horn through the mouthpiece. I thought of going to look around for a trombone...

It plays with a nice sound though...it isn't much deeper than the 3C I have but it feels huge in width. It will clearly take me a while to get used to. I'm tempted to get some dental goo they use to make impressions with and make one of the 3C then put it in the 3CW and see how much it rattles around in there.

I'll report back after I mess with it a bit. My preferred size is a Curry 5 or 7 just for a point of reference.

As a scientist...I think it is good to do experiments....
Best,
Randy

Hi Randy

Thanks very much for your initial impressions of the 3CW. I didn't notice the one I tried as being larger than my 3C, but inconsistency with Bach, as you know, pre-strike at least, was pretty common place.

I look forward to hearing your further thoughts on the 3CW at a later date.

Take Care

Lou

Hey Randall,
yes, the 3CW did feel extra wide to me too, that's why I traded it!
you should try a 7CW, it is much more comfortable, and feels about the right diameter, even though it is a "7".

..hmmm...I don't know. I do like the sound it makes...I think it's feel is just bigger than what I'm used to.

Thanks for the heads up on the 7CW though...I may look into one of those. If my Curry 5C was just a tad different....maybe I'll try his 60C ..

I don't think the 8.5 will work.

I know someone has a Bach 10 1/2c sitting around...

Peace

This post is a message for Matt Anklan.

Matt,
I just remembered that my PM's haven't gone thru in a timely manner. Here's an update: The flu has hit me hard this year, and I haven't made it out of the house in a few days. I'll be up on my feet pretty soon and will get to the post office at that point. In the meantime hold onto the other mpc untill you get my package.

Regards,
Dan

I have a Conn Connstellation cornet from the 60's. I don't have the mouthpeice to match this horn. I am looking for one in pretty good shape, not for playing just for display. will buy or trade.

I would like to trade a Monette Prana B 1.5M or Monette Prana B 1.5 M for a Monette B4S standard...prana considered.

My mouthpieces are in excellent condition with only some insertion marks... they offer a huge sound...since some dental work and an embouchure change I now need a smaller mouthpiece.

I am in the UK...

I have owned about every mouthpiece made, I have finally given up looking for the holy grail in mouthpiece's. I went back to the most comfortable mouthpiece's for me; that being MARCINKIEWICZ . My chops don't get as tired, and my lips don't get cut from a sharp inner rim. Give them a call a see for your self what these great mouthpieces can do for you. I use Standard size 8 & 10 for all of me work. Phone 503 263-2484 and talk to ZAK.
NOTE: The worst thing you can do to your playing is switching mouthpieces all the time. Find a comfortable one and stick with it !
