I was wondering - Who played Taps for Private Robert E. Lee Prewitt
(Montgomery Cliff) in the movie ‘From Here to Eternity’?

Seems to me I remember that being Manny Klein, same with the mouthpiece buzzing. There was something extra about that session in that Manny knew one of the other trumpets was in dire need of money, so Manny intentionally clammed a few times, forcing the session to go into overtime, just so the guy (and everyone else) would make some extra bread.
Manny's rep in the studios was so high that he could make an occasional clam and no one cared. If anything, they were amazed, kind of like Malcolm today. I'll e-mail Malcolm, see what he has to say about Eternity.
A few years after Manny Klein passed, his companion published a small book on his life. I bought a copy of it, unfortunately it wasn't much of a book. _________________ Tim Wendt

Thanks guys. Montgomery Clift it is.
Found a small blurb on Manny at the Wikipedia-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_Klein
The Fred Astaire movie ‘Second Chorus’ had Artie Shaw’s band in it.
Artie plays a killer solo in it. I’ll check it out again and look at the trumpet players.
