Has anyone heard this guy solo? F-ing amazing! He has got such a great sound, and his technique and tongueing are also top notch. I know this is common sense to many of you, but if you haven't heard him play on his solo albums (I own the New York Greats or something like that album) No wonder he is Principal Trumpet and has been for so many years, and did so relatively early in his career. Any thoughts?

....Yes excellent!!!

have you got the Concert Studies book?.. from Curnow Music (0578.01 CMP)
(ISBN 90-431-1269-0)

It's got 16 Studies plus a CD of Mr.Smith playing them all for ya! I bought it in the UK for £9.95. Which I thought was a really good price!!!

Enjoy!

I own the concert studies book and I thought the price was very cheap. They are good fun etudes and having the CD to listen is excellent.

Check out the CD "My Song of Songs" for more of Smith's solo work. Totally amazing. I got my copy from Dillons Music in New Jersey. http://www.dillonmusic.com

As far as I'm concerned, Phil Smith is the man! I love his sound, especially his brilliance in the upper register. That CD someone was referring to is New York Legends. I like that one and My Song of Songs is great too! Don't forget about his orchestral excerpts CD. Amazing playing and he's very versatile.
