On 12/8 I saw Paul Anka in concert at the Mirage in Las Vegas. The trumpet section consisted of Scott Englebright, Rocky Winslow and Greg Disbert (spelling?). These guys (esp. Greg and Scott) were absolute screamers! I thought I was at a Maynard Ferguson concert (and I've been to 30+ of those). Scott was taking certain parts 8va and had the other two trumpet players laughing. He was at double c and beyond several times throughout the concert. What a great show. As a trumpet player, I can't say enough good things about it. The horn section consisted of 2 saxes, 2 bones and 3 trumpets. They were great. If Paul Anka comes to a town near you, go see him. You won't regret it.

That's Greg Gisbert, and he is also one of the best jazz players in the world...a very rare talent. |
