So, how does this compare in volume to the quietest warm-up/practice mutes on the market, like Best Brass, Yamaha Silent Brass, etc.?

thanks for the question! the gumby is our first straight mute. a flexible (both physically and aurally) straight mute unlike any you've seen, played, or heard before. i invite you to check out the audio samples on the drop1.1/gumby on the site.

the heisenberg is our warmup mute and is right-on-track volume-wise with the mutes you mentioned. the advantage our mute offers is extreme playability in all registers/at all effort levels with no change in resistance our feel...all while looking amazing. we at merf make sure we're not producing or advertising redundancy. if there is an offering on the market that accomplishes what our mutes offer-frankly i don't know of it. lots of cheeky info and recordings on the site. we really appreciate your engagement. hope to welcome you to merfdom. soon!

I remember Gumby and his exploits on the mysterious planet Munimula. Mute venting is an interesting topic - common on trombones but I admit I haven't had much luck on trumpet mutes. You've obviously figured this out.

Just curious - why heisenberg instead of Erlenmeyer? (I guess if it's glass instead of plastic it could end up "Breaking Bad". Never a drummer around when you need one.)

I wonder if you could make a good Pixie mute out of a volumetric flask?

Clever ideas - thanks.

It is called "heisenberg" because of Breaking Bad? Or is it because of the "uncertainty" of what type of sound comes out of your horn?

Nice mutes.
