Hi
Last Monday I had the unpleasant surprise to being told by my dentist that I have to have one molar removed, and later be replaced by an implant.
It's been since then that I have quite somepain and discomfort.
Didn't try to play yet but how long is this gonna last ?
Furthermore I feel the gap it creates in the oral cavity . Hope this wont lead to playing issues....
All the best

i had a back molar done, #18. I was playing a few days after it was pulled, no problem. just recently, after 3 months, I had the post put in. Easier, and I was playing 2 days later, minimal discomfort. |

I still am in pain, weird noises in the area when blowing and some ' pain ' going up the Eustachian thing....
Gotta wait some I think

"Been there ... done that".
I suggest you take a break from playing. What I did. Did not affect my playing the horn, as I learned afterward. _________________ Sub-Optimal Hillbilly Jazz |

Have you asked your dentist? I had some dental work recently and the dentist provided advice, do's and don'ts. |

Still painful but less.
Dentiste said the molar and its roots were very deep (?) and that the sinuses might be exposed and thus the ' pressure ' can have a painful impact.
Curiously, the gap created by the removal of the tooth is having my tongue wondering where to settle in the mouth. The channeling of the air is different, like I have to seal (?) differently.
I guess I can use this situation to experiement/try to understand how it works
Thanks |

Follow up ( for those interested )
Extracted tooth's roots were so deep that the ' hole ' was connected with the sinus.
Air/liquids... were going through.
Was operated yesterday ( gum sliced and ' glued ' somewhat ).
Another week of waiting for the healing
Been 1 month I havent played
Turned off 2 gigs and have 2 more coming in the coming weeks I have to cancel .
I sure am eager to play again

You should be able to play again soon, but don't rush it - healing takes time, but the results are worth it.
good luck! _________________ Most Important Note ? - the next one !
KNOW (see) what the next note is BEFORE you have to play it.
PLAY the next note 'on time' and 'in rhythm'.
Oh ya, watch the conductor - they set what is 'on time'. |

I've had toothache for a long time, but because I'm pregnant, the doctor didn't recommend tooth extraction, so I've been enduring the pain. |
