Who is this guy? I know I've heard his name before but I can't seem to remember it. Seems like the Conan show would be a great gig!

His name is Mark Pender and from the little bit I hear at the beginning of the show, as well as going into and coming out of commercial breaks, he sounds like a very good player.
I believe he has also toured with both Southside Johnny and Bruce Springsteen, which explains his connection with Max Weinberg.

Yes,that is Mark Pender. If you go to the website that can be found under the horn section on this forum, and the B&S thread, you can find the address of the Mark Pender website on the B&S website. He has a band, of which evidently he is the leader called the Mark Pender Band, apart from his duties on Conan O'Brien.
His biography as well as the B&S website states that he plays B&S Challenger ll Elaboration series trumpets. So it appears that at least one relatively high status professional player(playing the Conan O'Brien/Max Weinberg 7 gig,NBC-TV, to me, makes him rather "high status") is using that particular brand of horn successfully.
Very interesting. |
